Nanomachines & megafauna
Welcome to my private website that is primarily home to my underwater photography and videos. Briefly, I work as a research fellow at the University of Auckland. The research I do, involves visualizing structure and function of various macromolecular protein assemblies using transmission electron microscopy and image processing/reconstruction techniques. In other words, I take pictures of the nanometre small biomachines that define life and disease. Taking photographs of oceanic megafauna complements my job and is what I do in my spare time. The bigger the animal or the likelier it is to eat me, the more I am intrigued by it, which is probably not a healthy attitude. Then again, the (in parts by tax-payer money subsidized) over-fishing/heating/pollution/acidification of our life support system isn’t either and we all do it…
Looking forward to hearing from you,
